About
The Full Story
In 2014 a small group of three Marine veterans in the Cedar Valley started to meet together on the weekends and go on hikes. The goal was to stay physically fit by carrying weighted rucks and doing exercises along the way, but also maintain close friendships. Fast forward to 2022, these same veterans saw a need for support, especially in their mental health. There was also a need for better agency for veterans in smaller communities and states, as sometimes those areas don't receive as many services. This all lead to the creation of Ruck Iowa. Ruck Iowa aims to help combat these needs through providing ways for veterans to stay physically active and meet other veterans who have lived through similar experiences. By developing lasting relationships, building camaraderie, and staying physically active, it significantly enhances one's personal well being and mental state. Ruck Iowa's goal is to continue to support and bring together as many veterans as we can throughout the state of Iowa.
